Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Officers state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then located numerous other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police state early analysis indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in association with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the public for information.
An important official said the incident made him stunned and required to be resolved promptly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the killing of nine victims by a gunman focusing on people of foreign heritage in 2020.
